Author of the Russian dossier says Buzzfeed sharing it was a horrifically irresponsible act. He is involved in several lawsuits relating to it. None of the info was verified and he didn't even believe much of it.

http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/20...unverifie/?1=1

Tbh if you thought a golden shower dossier was real I'm not sure what to say. Russia investigation still turning up nothing after multiple people recused themselves. I remain convinced that it's all a red scare gone out of control.

Worst case at this point seems to be that Flynn was a failed attempt by Russia to get in. It's a given at this point that Russian hacking and a strategic leaking of documents occurred.

Pence is proving to actually be a good VP. Mattis ain't too shabby either. And trump seems to be flip-flopping to realistic stances on a large number of matters as he gets the gravity of various situations slammed into his thick ass skull.

Immigration and tax reform seem to be the big issues left that he hasn't failed or fully conceded. That's not to say he won't revisit asinine things like the wall yet again, but for the immediate future we're doing ok.

There's still so much shit happening every day that it's hard to keep track. I wonder what the latest batch of executive orders will try to do before being thrown out.

Ridiculous. What, exactly, has Pence done that is either good or bad? He has a job with two duties: break ties in the Senate and remain breathing in case the President dies (at which time, he presides over the first American theocracy - looking forward to that, are you?). Beyond that, the performance of the members of the Trump government is difficult to impossible to judge based on what they've done - it's all at the order of the White House (Trump, Bannon, & Trump's kids & kid-in-law). For example: did Mattis and his DoD lackeys really not know where the USS Carl Vinson was, or were they intentionally spreading false statements at the order of someone in the West Wing? Who knows?

One thing is clear: by virtue of being part of this government, Pence & Mattis and the rest of them are complicit in whatever messes Trump creates.

Mattis named global warming as a large threat to national security. That is quite a bold thing to do when in the heart of Trumpland. It means he cares more about doing the job right than sucking orange dong. There are a few other indicators of this.

It's been kind of quiet but Pence is covering foreign policy pretty well. He smooths over Trumps garbage quite nicely. I will have my eye on him forever due to his religion and history with the gay community. But for now, everything is at equilibrium even though we just shot missiles.

In short, we all gonna make it, bruh.

Maybe it's the lawyer in me, but this is exactly the problem. I focus on risk mitigation daily, and the risk of your statement being untrue is far too high, even though it's probably correct.

The standard shouldn't be - is it likely that Trump leads us to Armageddon or to create concentration camps for anyone of Latin American descent? If that's the standard, then it's easy for people to just stand by and shrug their shoulders - he probably won't be able to fuck things up that bad, it's really hard to make the government take radical action*. HOWEVER, the chance is a lot higher than zero than anyone should be comfortable with.

*One area where that general statement less true is in foreign policy - the President has nearly unlimited discretion when it comes to national security. People who say the missiles against Syria were illegal just don't understand the court decisions over the years that have negated nearly all Congressional attempts to rein in the President. The Supreme Court has said, in effect, if it's necessary for national security, the President can do it, and guess who gets to say if it's necessary for national security? The President does.

There are so many misconceptions here.

The guy who assembled the dossier paid Russian contacts for various pieces of information. He doesn't have the toolset to verify any of those claims. Of course he's going to take it with a grain of salt until proven otherwise. Obviously now, when the combined intelligence agencies of the US have verified substantial portions of info, we have to take the information seriously.

Great that Mattis declared global warming as a national security threat. It's unfortunate that the solution to the damn problem is is completely outside the scope of the Defense department. Trump has consistently rolled back environmental regulations (really ANY regulations) in a misguided attempt to jumpstart outdated industry at the expense of the health of present and future generations of Americans.

Pence is a figurehead, much like any VP. His biggest accomplishment so far is breaking the tie on the DeVos appointment. But he also serves as the most prominent ambassador to foreign states, and will frequently travel abroad to represent Trump's foreign policy, which is all over the place. So far the message seems to be to make lots of noise so that people will talk to us, whether that comes in the form of cancelling trade treaties or dropping ordinance.

Don't even get me started on the tax plan, the rampant hypocrisy, or the ridiculous amount of nepotism and corporate access. But probably most frustrating is the amount of people who are willing to give Trump a free pass, either as a Republican, or as a person who is willing to give a disproportionate amount of credit for "accomplishments" that deserve none.

No shit we're all going to make it.

Amazing. Not a clickbait title. Also he hands the interviewer an electoral map and brags about his results.

You ought to be very skeptical of any article published by The Washington Times.

What? You think a newspaper founded and owned by a cult might have credibility issues?

Oh it gets better than that. And I definitely thought I linked the post both times.

https://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/wa...t-a-crossroads

I also found "trunews" and the daily caller running the same story word for word.

Trunews is owned by a Christian conspiracy theorist who thinks Obama is literally a devil. http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Rick_Wiles

This seems to be the real update on the dossier - Steele finally talked about it after being in hiding from Jan to late March then slinking back into work and telling everyone who asked "no comment". His legal defense forced had him make a statement on it since two accused in the dossier published by buzzfeed are filing suits.

As to what exactly that statement is, nobody has bothered to link it. But the gist is plainly that he has no liability because he never gave it to buzzfeed. They got their hands on it and decided to publish with absolutely no regard for privacy, fact-checking, or potential ongoing FBI investigations. Got to get them clicks.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...16-kremlin#top

The cult paper is running a lie by omission scam to fake news it up. When the context of how the report was gathered comes into the picture, it's plain that anybody claiming one single part of the dossier being true or false doesn't mean much for another part of it, since it's a bunch of collated tiny reports from different timer periods and sources. As Zheng points out.

Also some sources claim Steele was offered 50k to keep up the work. That may or may not be true, but even if it is it doesn't mean shit. That seems to be normal procedure for this type of thing in national security.

Fwiw the more he sites seemed like fake news, the more they pushed that detail. Likely in an attempt to make it seem like Steele is lying about all of it for money.
