I never said "early" TNG...I said not until TNG...they used it for fucking getting out of everything in Voyager...it became "Jump the Shark"-esque at that point.

This is true

after working my way through voyager it's amazing how much shit they pump out the deflector.

And shield modulations, although that shit doesnt work vs temporal torpedoes

I always thought the transporter was the "swiss army knife" of Star Trek, but I confess I haven't seen much Voyager / DS9. They even pulled transporter tricks in the new Star Trek.

Transporter is the "budget management" of Star Trek that also happens to be incredibly useful as a story device.
