I played Valakut at the 5k and didn't ask your advice
![]() I played a non-bloodbraid list and did terrible with it - 2-3, with only one valaut player doing worse than I did. I was wondering how you feel about Lavaball Trap and Bogardan Hellkites? I played 3 Traps maindeck and 2 Hellkites, and I've sinced moved to a singleton Hellkite and a singleton trap md (2 more traps in sb) and shoehorned Bloodbraid Elves and Burst Lightnings into the maindeck, since BBE is ridiculous - only difference between our lists now is I have -1 naya panorama and -1 burst lightning for +1 lavaball trap and +1 bogardan hellkite. Congratulations on your finish, too! It's nice to see the deck get so many players and to see it in the top 8. |

So you play less land and costlier spells?

Seems like he probably just likes those two 8-mana spells a lot, so it's hard for him to cut them from the list. I've done that before, and therefore it took me longer to tweak the deck. Eventually you just have to realize that some cards don't belong. It's mainly the fact that once you are casting an 8-mana spell in Valakut, your opponent should already be dead(win-more).

Hellkite seems to just sit in my hand most of the time, so I'm just going to cut him for the extra land. Lavaball Trap has been a blowout every time I cast it. I managed to catch a Knightfall player who went for a turn 4 Thornling with it - he didn't leave one mana open, lol. |

Justin - you should type up a primer (if you have time) for Valakut, post it here for input, then try to sell it to Starcity.

Yeah, I'll write up a primer sometime at work today. The big spells are mostly unnecessary, but they can be good in certain matchups.
I don't think my writing is good enough to send to SCG. |
